Throughout the year, we will have a number of events (such as our Nature Write Workshops at Indian Springs Metropark which run from now into December 2012), our annual Extraordinary Time Writer’s Retreat in Historic New Harmony, Indiana, as well as a number of speaking engagements, demonstrations, and stand alone workshops.
Keep checking back as we fill our calendar for the rest of 2012 and start setting dates for 2013 over the next few weeks.
Reconnect with Nature, Reconnect with Yourself
This is a workshop series blending guided outdoor activities with dynamic discussion and reflective nature writing.
We spend most of our lives indoors. As a result, we often forget that we are sensory beings and that our senses – like our sense of thirst, for example – are the very things that connect us with the natural world.
Each of us is part of an amazing, intricate, delicate system, and the more time we spend outside exploring our deep connections in and to nature, the healthier (physically, mentally, emotionally) we tend to be. It isn’t just children who are suffering from Nature Deficit Disorder.
This doesn’t mean we need to retreat to remote landscapes to experience profound well-being. Research shows that even a quiet walk down a tree-lined lane can positively impact our health by allowing our minds to rest and recuperate.
When we take time to describe in writing our intentional experiences in nature, we make those experiences even more profound because we are using other senses, not just to interpret, but to re-experience them and to reconnect with often alienated parts of ourselves.
In these Nature-Write workshops we will guide you through an exploration of your relationship with the natural world so that you might rediscover the ways you are part of the world and it is a part of you. As a result, you will also connect more completely with yourself. Please join us!
This series is designed and led by award winning poets and writers, nature lovers, and teachers, Cathy Shap and Dave DeGolyer.
These Workshops include a discussion of writing from some of the world’s most intriguing nature writers; outdoor activities exploring the wooded wetlands and rolling meadows of Indian Springs Metropark; a peaceful reflective session to practice some nature writing of your own; the sweet ending of a group share.
